FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What is 21st Century Leadership?
A. 21st Century Leadership promotes leadership as a mindset, and helps participants develop behaviors and skills associated with having a leadership mindset. Having a strengthened leadership mindset results in participating in ways that inspire and motivate others to invest themselves in ways that inspire and motivate others to create the results you want.

When people and companies get stuck, they usually focus on becoming more competent at doing what led them to being stuck in the first place. They work harder, try harder, add more of the same or similar results and get more stuck.

Moving forward and making progress requires thinking about and doing things differently. It requires, in particular:

  • Developing a different way of being intelligent. This includes developing more effective ways of thinking, working, communicating, honoring what you value connecting with people, learning and dealing with the expectations and feelings that accompany change.
  • Learning more about you.  Understanding your purpose as an individual, how you drive meaning in your life and what drives you.  What people and businesses don't know about themselves controls them.  The more they know, the more choices they have and the better choices they make.
Q. What results may I expect to create through my participation at 21st Century Leadership?
A. Expect monumental professional and personal growth when you attend this unique course. You will develop and strengthen yourself in the following ways:

  • By clarifying who you are at your core and what your unique contributions are. This knowledge is at the heart of leadership.
  • By creating a personal Definition of Success - a statement of the experiences you are driven to create for yourself to feel fulfilled in life. The most effective leaders experience a high level of fulfillment.
  • By enlarging your vision - what do you really want for yourself, your work, your family, your friends and your community?
  • By taking even more ownership of your results without fault and blame of yourself and others. It is through embracing a position of ownership of results that people are empowered and internally motivated to action.
  • By becoming more influential through improved communication, including
    • Conflict resolution
    • Creating agreement with others
    • Delivering and receiving feedback and difficult messages
    • Confident and skillful presentations that capture your audiences
  • By identifying and eliminating ineffective patterned mindsets, behaviors and emotional responses.
  • By heightening your level of self-compassion, resulting in more self-honesty and greater compassion for others. People who are overly self-critical tend not to find real solutions to what is not working.
  • By taking action steps during and after the course which produce significant tangible and measurable results above and beyond your present expectations.

Tom McMail, Lead Product Planner
Microsoft

“I believe leadership is an attitude, not a position. I knew I was a leader, I just wasn't clear on how leadership should look for me. Today, I know!”

Shannon Bowen, President & Partner
Bowen Personnel Ltd.

“I am now a much more effective communicator, and I was no slouch before attending this course. I addressed and resolved what I allow to get in my way when things aren’t working.”

Lea Miller, District Sales Manager
Avon Products

“Why should a business/corporation put out all this dough for employees to take the course? The answer is obvious--participation is key to learning. Most of us don't have the discipline to teach ourselves well without help. The teaching approach is novel and has been honed over many years. I use their techniques at my hospital.”

Bill Taeusch, MD, Chief of Pediatrics
San Francisco General Hospital
